Hagerstown, MD News (12/21/2023) – In a special ceremony scheduled for Saturday, December 23, at noon, the City of Hagerstown will honor Shaun Ricker, better known globally as “LA Knight,” by presenting him with the key to the city. The event will take place at University Plaza, located at 50 W. Washington St., marking a significant moment for the professional wrestler and Hagerstown native.

Born on November 11, 1982, Ricker is an American professional wrestler currently signed with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and performs on the SmackDown brand under the ring name LA Knight. He graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 2000.

Ricker’s journey in professional wrestling began on the independent circuit in 2003, leading him to Championship Wrestling from Hollywood (CW) in 2010. After a stint with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) affiliated CW, he signed with WWE in 2014, performing in its developmental territory NXT as Slate Randall. His subsequent success in Impact Wrestling, where he became a one-time Impact World Champion, brought him recognition and acclaim.

Returning to WWE in 2021 as LA Knight, he has since made significant strides in his career, winning the Million Dollar Championship during his time in NXT. His transition to the main roster in 2022, initially taking on a managerial role as Max Dupri, showcased his versatility. Despite the challenges, he returned to in-ring action as LA Knight, winning over fans with his charismatic persona and promo delivery skills.

Outside of wrestling, Ricker has ventured into various entertainment mediums, including a role on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s reality show “The Hero” in 2013, a cameo on the comedy series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” in 2015, and contributing to the WWE 2K series of video games.

With an outspoken charisma and a refusal to conform, LA Knight has become a standout figure on the SmackDown roster. His notable encounters with wrestling legends such as John Cena and contemporary stars like Roman Reigns have further solidified his presence in the industry.
