The event was attended by Mayor Tekesha Martinez, City Administrator Scott Nicewarner, Washington County Board of Commissioners President John Barr, Washington County Chamber of Commerce CEO/President Paul Frey, Western Maryland Representative to Congressman David Trone’s Office Annaston Cree, Washington County Government Administrative Support Specialist Machelle Dwyer, City of Hagerstown Economic Coordinator Emily Conrad, and a number of Easterseals team members, including James Smith (Vice President of Development) and Marcus Bolston (Regional Director).
Easterseals Adult Day Services first opened in Hagerstown in 1992 with the goal to serve the needs of adults and seniors with disabilities. And as Easterseals Vice President of Communications & Marketing Paula Moore states, “Easterseals goes where there is a need.”
While the new location opened in May of 2021, because of the pandemic, it initially worked with clients remotely before the doors were able to open to provide the in-person activities designed to reflect the interests and life experiences of participants—as originally conceived—three months later. The latest Hagerstown site is proud to offer clinical services that include a registered nurse, physical and occupational therapy, diabetes management, blood glucose monitoring, and more.
Easterseals also tailors employment support and mental health services to veterans and military families in Hagerstown and other parts of western Maryland.
In addition to what they have already established, Easterseals has launched a $10 million campaign aimed at opening a National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)-accredited child development center in Hagerstown.
