Washington County High School Baseball is entering the home stretch of the 2023 regular season. Two public school teams and two private school squads have been the class of the county so far.
Clear Spring and North Hagerstown are the top dogs in public school baseball in the county. The Blazers are 11-2-2 overall and have won six straight games, while the Hubs are 13-3-1 with all three losses coming to State Ranked teams.
The Blazers and Hubs met in early April and battled for nine innings before ending in a 4-4 tie. An extra inning tie was a fitting result for the county’s top two teams. Clear Spring has the better overall record but North wrapped up the county schedule with a 6-0-1 record.
On the Private School side Broadfording Christian at 9-1 and St. Maria Goretti at 15-2 are the cream of the crop. The Lions are the surprise team this season, while the Gaels have been a top county private school team for a few years in a row.
Goretti is on a five-game winning streak since losing in the Mingo Bay tournament in South Carolina. Broadfording has won six a row since losing to powerful North Hagerstown, 13-3, on April 8th.
Clear Spring and North will begin the Maryland playoffs next week, Goretti still has six games left before the Old Line Conference Tournament. Broadfording will close out their regular season next week, then try to continue their success in the MDCC tournament.
