County Solid Waste Department Pauses Recycling for At Least Two Weeks

HAGERSTOWN, MD – Due to an equipment failure at a local recycling facility, the Washington County Government Solid Waste Department has announced a hold on accepting recyclables at 40 West Landfill and all Transfer stations will be extended for at least two more weeks. This hold is due to a delay in getting parts for a major equipment breakdown at the local recycling facility, which is not owned or operated by Washington County Government.

For those who are unable to hold recyclables, they are still able to bring them to any of the County’s landfill facilities.

This is only for Washington County Recycling permit holders. All others who have recycling collected or drop-off elsewhere will need to contact their recycling company directly.

All other operations at the landfill are continuing as normal. The County will provide an update when more information has been received.
