During this session, the Board will examine the findings of the 2026 Maryland Report Card, which provides a comprehensive overview of the state’s educational performance. Alongside this, they will review the results from the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) for high school science and American government. Discussions are also slated regarding regulations pertaining to cell phone and personal device access within schools. A significant item on the agenda will be the consideration of adopting a new Comprehensive PreK-12 Literacy Policy, aimed at strengthening literacy education across all grade levels.
The meeting will also feature updates on critical human resource aspects within the education system, specifically concerning teacher recruitment efforts and current vacancy rates. Further information will be presented by the School Calendar and Instructional Requirements Workgroup. As part of the proceedings, the Board will take time to recognize Maryland’s Education Support Professional of the Year, highlighting outstanding contributions to the educational community.
