The targeted spraying will cover a number of residential and recreational areas within Hamilton Township. Streets scheduled for treatment include Sollenberger Road, Johnson Road, Leedy Drive, Holly Lane, Hamilton Hills Drive, Hamilton Avenue, Nottingham Drive, Buckingham Drive, Devon Drive, Shefield Drive, Rosehill Court, Echo Springs Road, Edenville Road, and Mark Drive. It is important to note that the listed roads serve as a reference, and adjacent areas may also be included in the spraying efforts. The Franklin County Mosquito-Borne Disease Program will be executing this truck-mounted ultra-low volume (ULV) application.
The mosquito control operation is scheduled to take place after sunset to minimize impact on non-target species, particularly bees. Franklin County’s mosquito and tick-borne disease control specialist will oversee the application of PermaSease 4-4, a product designed for rapid and effective adult mosquito control, at a rate of 1.00 oz per acre. The spray is designed to dissipate within 15 minutes of application. Weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances could lead to a postponement of the spraying, with a contingency date set for September 9th.
Residents are encouraged to remain indoors during the spraying process as a courtesy measure to allow for efficient application. While Franklin County staff may pause spraying if residents are observed outdoors, frequent interruptions can reduce the operation’s overall effectiveness in controlling mosquito populations and the transmission of West Nile virus. Following the spraying, residents can further protect themselves by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors, and diligently eliminating standing water around their homes. Even small amounts of water, such as in a bottle cap, can serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
