Best Buy Recalls Insignia Gas Ranges Over Fire Hazard Risk

Approximately 3,820 Insignia brand front control gas ranges sold nationwide by Best Buy are being recalled due to a potential fire hazard, according to a recent announcement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall specifically affects models NS-RGFGSS1 and NS-RGFCGS2, sold between November 2020 and March 2026.

The issue stems from the front-mounted control knobs, which can be unintentionally activated by people or pets. This accidental activation can lead to the range turning on without user intent, posing a significant risk of a fire hazard. While Best Buy has received one report of the knobs being activated accidentally, no injuries have been reported in connection with this issue.

Consumers who own the affected Insignia gas ranges are strongly advised to stop using them immediately. To address the hazard, Best Buy is offering a free remedy to all affected consumers. This remedy consists of a set of compatible knob covers, which will be mailed to consumers after they confirm their product is part of the recall. Instructions for installing these covers will be provided.

Consumers can identify if their gas range is part of this recall by checking the model number. This information is located on a label inside the bottom drawer of the appliance. In addition to the free knob covers, consumers are being cautioned to take extra precautions when using the affected ranges. It is recommended to keep children and pets away from the control knobs, to verify that all knobs are in the “off” position before leaving the home or going to sleep, and to avoid placing objects on the range when it is not in use. These measures can help mitigate the risk of accidental activation while awaiting the free remedy.

The recalled gas ranges were sold at Best Buy stores across the country and online through BestBuy.com. The price range for these units was between $280 and $1,470. The importer of record for these products is Best Buy Purchasing LLC, based in Richfield, Minnesota, and the units were manufactured in China. About 700 of these units were also sold in Canada.
