The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of approximately 7,400 Super Off-Road 12,000 mAh Solar Wireless Power Banks due to an overheating risk. The importer of these devices, Spector & Co., is offering full refunds to consumers who return the affected products.
The recalled power banks, which are black and measure about 3.4 inches wide by 6.5 inches high, are equipped with solar charging capabilities and can also charge devices wirelessly. The issue stems from the lithium-ion battery within the power bank, which can swell and overheat, presenting a potential burn hazard to users. The product was distributed as a promotional item by various companies between January 2019 and December 2023. In addition to the units sold in the U.S., Spector & Co. also sold about 4,964 units in Canada.

Consumers who possess one of these recalled power banks are advised to cease using the device immediately. To receive a full refund, which will be issued in the form of a check, individuals should visit the Spector & Co. website at spectroandco.com/recall to register for the recall. The company can also be reached by phone at 888-377-7732 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or by email at recall@spectorandco.com.
It is crucial for consumers to properly dispose of the recalled power banks. The CPSC strongly advises against discarding these lithium-ion batteries in regular trash, curbside recycling bins, or standard battery recycling boxes found at retail locations. Due to the increased fire risk associated with these types of batteries, they require special handling. Consumers should contact their local municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center to inquire about their procedures for accepting recalled lithium-ion batteries. If the HHW center does not accept them, further guidance should be sought from the municipality. While two reports of battery swelling have been received by the company, no injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
