Daikin Comfort Technologies Recalls Amana Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps Due to Fire and Burn Hazard

Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has announced a recall of approximately 13,514 Amana brand Window-Room-Air-Conditioners (WRAC) and Through the Wall (TTW) air conditioners or heat pumps. This recall, issued on June 25, 2026, addresses a hazard where the heating element can remain energized even when the unit is turned off, posing a significant risk of fire or serious burn injuries to consumers. About 53 of these units were also sold in Canada.

The recalled units are white and typically have the Amana brand name displayed on their control covers. They are commonly installed in commercial settings such as hotels and apartment buildings, as well as in individual rooms. The specific models subject to this recall include Through the Wall units with model numbers beginning with “PB” (PBH113J35AA, PBH093J35AA, PBH073J35AA, PBE123J35AA, PBE093J35AA) and Window-Room-Air-Conditioners with model numbers AH183J35AA, AH123J35AA, AH093J35AA, AE183J35AA, AE123J35AA, and AE093J35AA. Consumers can locate the model number on a white sticker on the front edge of the base pan of the unit. The serial number can be found beneath the barcode, also on this sticker. These units were sold nationwide by direct sales and heating and cooling dealers between April 2025 and December 2025, with prices ranging from $850 to $1,500.

Consumers are strongly advised to immediately stop using the recalled air conditioners and heat pumps. To receive a full refund, customers must contact Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, Inc. (DCT) to initiate the recall process. This will involve providing personal contact information, cutting the product’s power cord, and submitting a photograph of the cut cord along with the unit’s serial number. DCT has reported one incident where plastic on a unit melted, though no injuries have been reported to date.
