In contests for the House of Representatives, the Sixth Congressional District Democratic primary is tightly contested between April McClain Delaney and David J. Trone, with Delaney currently holding a slight advantage. For the Republican nomination in the same district, Robin Ficker is leading, followed by Chris Burnett. Within the House of Delegates, District 2B, Matthew J. Schindler appears to have secured the Democratic nomination, and Sean Flaherty is the only Republican candidate.
In Washington County, several local races are also underway, with unofficial results showing a few close competitions. For County Commissioner, Lara A. Shepherd is leading the Democratic field, while Randy Leatherman is ahead among Republican candidates. The race for Treasurer in Washington County shows John McElroy in the lead for the Republican nomination. A very close contest is unfolding for State’s Attorney, with Adam Daniel Greivell slightly ahead of Gina M. Cirincion in the Republican primary, but still too close to call as the difference is less than 20 votes. Junior P. McLeod is the automatic winner for the Democratic Sheriff in Washington County, while Brian K. Albert leads the Republican race against Chuckie Johnson. In the non-partisan Board of Education race, Pieter Bickford is currently in the lead, followed by Robin A. Merchant-Spickler and Linda Murray.
The official tabulation of all ballots is ongoing. Washington County election officials are scheduled to continue canvassing mail-in ballots on Thursday, June 25, and again on Monday, July 6. A provisional ballot canvass is planned for Wednesday, July 1. Updates will be provided as more results become available, and some races, such as the Washington County State’s Attorney race, remain too close to call at this time.
