The City of Frederick will launch its annual Summer Food Service Program on June 17, offering complimentary nutritious lunches to children and teenagers across the community. The program aims to combat food insecurity during the summer break, ensuring that individuals aged 18 and under have access to healthy meals when school is not in session. This initiative, funded entirely by the City and supported by the USDA, will run through August 14.

Meals will be provided each weekday, with the exception of July 3, and no pre-registration, sign-in, or proof of eligibility is necessary for participation. This accessibility is designed to remove potential barriers for families needing assistance. The program emphasizes that all meals must be consumed at the designated service locations, although accommodations may be made for severe weather. Families with children who have food allergies are advised to inform program staff, who will endeavor to provide suitable alternative meals when possible.
Several locations throughout Frederick will serve as distribution points for these free meals. These include Amber Meadows Park, Brunswick Library, and Carrollton Park, all offering lunch between 11:45 AM and 12:45 PM. Hill Street Park and Lake Coventry Park will provide meals from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The Discovery Community Center will begin serving meals on June 22 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Additionally, the First Missionary Baptist Church will offer meals on Thursdays starting June 25, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The City of Frederick encourages residents to utilize this valuable resource and to share information about the program with their neighbors and community members. Further details, including specific meal schedules and updated location information, can be found on the City of Frederick’s Department of Health and Human Services website.
