The State Board is committed to ensuring the integrity of the voting system, with established safeguards in place to prevent duplicate votes. For voters who received a replacement mail-in ballot, officials have clarified the return procedures. If a voter opts to return their ballot via mail, it is crucial that it is postmarked by Election Day, June 23, 2026. This applies whether the voter is returning a replacement ballot or their original ballot.
Further clarification has been provided regarding the handling of original ballots. Voters are advised to destroy their original ballot if they still have it in their possession before completing the replacement ballot. However, if an original ballot has already been cast, it will be accounted for and isolated by local election boards to ensure it is not counted alongside a replacement ballot. Voters who have already returned their original ballot will receive direct communication from election officials, via mail and email if contact information is available, informing them to return their replacement ballot. These notices will be distinct from general informational mailings.
Replacement ballot packets are currently being printed and distributed alphabetically. The vendor has begun sending out replacement ballots to voters in Allegany County, and printing operations are expected to continue through the weekend. The remaining counties’ delivery schedules are anticipated to be released on the Tuesday following Memorial Day weekend. All replacement ballots are slated to be issued and mailed no later than May 29, 2026.
