Leesburg, VA – A Leesburg man has been indicted on multiple new charges, including aggravated murder and first-degree murder, in connection with the death of an 8-month-old infant. The Leesburg Police Department announced that Alvaro Mejia Ayala, 22, was indicted by a Loudoun County Grand Jury on charges stemming from an incident on September 17, 2025. This development marks a significant escalation in the legal proceedings following the infant’s death from injuries sustained during the assault.

Ayala is now facing charges of suffocation, aggravated murder, first-degree murder, first-degree murder in the commission of abduction, felony murder by suffocation, and abduction of a minor. These charges were handed down by the grand jury following an investigation into the September 2025 assault that occurred in the 0 block of Hancock Place NE. The infant victim, an 8-month-old girl, succumbed to the injuries she sustained.
Ayala was initially taken into custody on September 17, 2025, and was charged with strangulation at that time. He is currently being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center as the case progresses through the court system. The Leesburg Police Department indicated that the investigation has been thorough and compassionate, aiming to bring resolution for the victim and her family. Due to the ongoing judicial process, no further details are being released at this time. The Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is partnering with the police department as the case moves forward.
