Approximately 2,820 Can-Am Outlander Pro and Max Pro all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are being recalled due to a malfunctioning speed limiter control, which can lead to unexpected acceleration and a crash hazard. The recall was issued by BRP US Inc., importer of the ATVs, and affects model years 2025 and 2026 Outlander 500 or 700 Pro and Max Pro ATVs equipped with Speed Limiter Mode, as well as model years 2023 and 2024 models that received a specific Engine Control Module (ECM) software update on or after February 3, 2026. The recalled vehicles are identified by their model names, “OUTLANDER PRO,” displayed on the front side, and “Can-Am” branding on the rear fender. The specific model year can be determined by the 10th character of the 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), where P indicates 2023, R signifies 2024, S denotes 2025, and T represents 2026. The VIN label is located on the front right side of the vehicle’s frame, with the VIN also stamped on the front member on the right side. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has noted one reported incident where a speed limiter failure caused sudden acceleration, resulting in the ATV flipping and the rider sustaining minor injuries including scrapes and bruises.
Consumers who own the affected Can-Am ATVs are advised to immediately cease using the Speed Limiter Mode. To address the hazard, an authorized Can-Am Off-Road dealer can perform a free repair that involves a software update. This update is expected to take less than one hour. To locate a dealer, consumers can visit the provided Can-Am website for their region. For further information or to schedule the repair, individuals can contact BRP toll-free at 888-272-9222 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, seven days a week, or find additional details on the safety recalls section of the Can-Am website.
