Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has announced the conviction of Diamante Teal, a 29-year-old Baltimore City resident, for his role in a fatal triple shooting that occurred on July 11, 2019. The incident, which took place outside a shopping center in the 5600 block of The Alameda, resulted in the death of a 16-year-old and injuries to two other bystanders. Teal was also found guilty for his involvement in a separate armed robbery that took place on June 17, 2019. This conviction marks the second for the triple shooting, with a codefendant, Phillip Morton, having been previously convicted in March 2026. A third individual, William Stewart, who is alleged to have been the second shooter, is awaiting trial.
Following a six-day jury trial, Teal was found guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, using a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, and two counts of first-degree assault. The jury also convicted him on charges related to the armed robbery of a carryout restaurant, including robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of first-degree assault, and firearm use. The evidence presented at trial indicated that on the evening of July 11, 2019, the 16-year-old victim was ambushed by two shooters, including Teal, as he walked near a Subway store. A getaway vehicle, driven by codefendant Phillip Morton, pulled into a nearby gas station. Teal and the other shooter then exited the vehicle and fired a total of 24 rounds at the victim using an assault-style rifle and a handgun. Morton reportedly waited in the vehicle during the shooting before all three fled the scene.

The teenage victim sustained three gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Hospital approximately two hours after the incident. Two women who were present at the shopping center were also struck by gunfire and survived. One woman was shot in the leg while standing in line with her daughter, and the other sustained an ear injury. Investigators recovered 18 shell casings from the scene, consistent with the use of an assault-style rifle. The prosecution presented photographic evidence of Teal holding a gold-spray-painted assault-style rifle, which the state argued was used in the murder. Surveillance footage also showed Teal wearing distinctive blue shoes on the day of the shooting, matching those he wore when he was apprehended. Further evidence included social media communications in which Teal appeared to be tracking the victim, with messages indicating an intent to harm. Teal reportedly fled to Ohio shortly after the shooting, and when questioned by his sister, allegedly sent her a screenshot of a news article detailing the triple shooting.
In addition to the murder conviction, Teal was also found guilty of an armed robbery that occurred at Baltimore’s Best Wings on June 17, 2019. During this incident, Teal and an accomplice allegedly robbed the husband and wife owners at gunpoint. Surveillance footage from the restaurant showed an individual identified by the state as Teal wearing the same blue shoes and carrying the same gold spray-painted assault-style rifle that was later used in the triple shooting. The carryout restaurant has since closed. The jury deliberated for approximately five hours before reaching its verdict. Teal is scheduled for sentencing on August 13, 2026, and faces a potential life sentence for the murder and conspiracy charges, as well as additional years for the other offenses.
The conviction of Diamante Teal is the second resulting from the 2019 triple shooting. Phillip Morton, the alleged getaway driver, was found guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and related charges on March 23, 2026. Evidence presented in Morton’s trial included DNA from the suspect vehicle, which was identified through video surveillance, and a video showing the occupants matching the attire seen in crime scene footage. A letter written by Morton, intercepted by law enforcement, was also presented to the jury, in which he admitted to committing a homicide stemming from an ongoing conflict. Morton faces a potential life sentence for the murder and conspiracy charges, and up to 70 years for other offenses. His sentencing is scheduled for August 11, 2026. The third codefendant, William Stewart, is slated for trial on October 13, 2026.
