Two men from Maryland have been charged in connection with a sweeping federal initiative aimed at combating child sex abuse. The indictments are part of “Operation Iron Pursuit,” a month-long nationwide effort that led to the arrest of over 350 individuals accused of child sexual abuse offenses and the identification of more than 200 child victims. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland announced the charges, which include individuals from Baltimore and Frederick.

The operation, which ran from April 1 to April 30, involved all 56 FBI field offices and U.S. Attorneys’ offices across the country. Officials stated that the initiative’s goal was to locate child victims of sex abuse and apprehend those who exploit them. The Department of Justice highlighted the seriousness of these crimes, emphasizing a commitment to pursuing offenders and ensuring justice for victims. During the operation, a variety of alleged offenses were uncovered, including sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, abuse, kidnapping, and the possession, distribution, or receipt of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Tarif Jahmil Alston, a 43-year-old Baltimore resident and a previously convicted sex offender, faces multiple charges. These include five counts of receiving child sexual abuse material, two counts of distributing such material, and one count of possessing it. Gleybar Josue Ramirez-Clemente, 21, of Frederick, has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child, coercion and enticement, and possession of child sexual abuse material. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland noted that an indictment signifies a formal accusation and that individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Operation Iron Pursuit is part of a larger, ongoing effort by the Department of Justice to protect children. Previous operations, such as Operation Relentless Justice, Operation Enduring Justice, and Operation Restore Justice, have also resulted in significant numbers of child rescues and offender arrests. The FBI’s Victim Services Division played a role in supporting victims during Operation Iron Pursuit, offering services like crisis support, forensic interviews, and referrals for medical and mental health resources. This division aims to help victims navigate the aftermath of crime and the legal process.

The Department of Justice encourages the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected child exploitation. Information can be shared through the FBI’s tipline at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324), via the website tips.fbi.gov, or by contacting a local FBI field office. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) also receives and shares tips about potential child sexual exploitation through its 24/7 hotline at 1-800-THE-LOST and its website, missingkids.org.

The successful execution of Operation Iron Pursuit in Maryland was attributed to the collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Offices for Baltimore City and Frederick County, the Baltimore Police Department, and the Frederick Police Department.
