The initiative began in August 2025 when COPA extended an invitation to artists to submit proposals for sculptures that would embody the unique character of Leesburg. From the submissions received, ten designs were chosen and subsequently brought to life as heart-shaped sculptures. These artworks have now been installed in various locations across the town, forming a new public art collection.

During a recent event, the unveiled designs of each sculpture were showcased, and informational brochures containing a map of their locations were distributed. The celebration was attended by the artists whose work was selected, as well as sponsors who supported the project and members of Friends of Leesburg Public Arts. The Commission on Public Art expressed its admiration for the artists’ interpretations of the project’s theme, with hopes that the sculptures will resonate with the community and enhance the town’s aesthetic appeal.

An online map detailing the specific locations of each heart sculpture is expected to become available soon. Additionally, printed versions of the map will be accessible upon request. Residents are encouraged to embark on a journey to explore these ten unique creations in person, allowing for a closer appreciation of each individual design. Further information regarding this project and other public art initiatives within Leesburg can be found on the town’s official website at http://www.leesburgva.gov/publicart.
