Shepherdstown, West Virginia residents who wish to run in the upcoming June 2, 2026, Municipal Election have a new window of opportunity to file as write-in candidates. The official candidate filing period has closed, but the town is now accepting declarations for those who wish to have their names written in by voters on the ballot. These write-in candidates’ names will not be printed on the official ballots.
Individuals interested in pursuing a write-in candidacy must obtain and complete a notarized Write-In Candidate’s Certificate of Announcement form. This completed and notarized form must be submitted to the Town Clerk’s Office, located at Town Hall, no later than 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The necessary forms and detailed filing instructions are available directly from the Shepherdstown Town Clerk’s Office. For those considering this path, the Town Clerk’s office encourages advance contact at 304-876-2398 to ensure all filing requirements and submission procedures are clearly understood and met. This process ensures that all potential candidates are aware of the specific steps required to be eligible for the upcoming election.
