Ford Motor Company is initiating a recall affecting more than 47,000 of its 2025 model year vehicles due to a potential defect in the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve, which could lead to a loss of motive power and an increased risk of a crash. The recall, as detailed in a Part 573 Safety Recall Report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), encompasses several popular Ford and Lincoln models.

The defect stems from the possibility of the poppet head within the EGR valve detaching. This detachment could result in excessive EGR flow to the engine, potentially causing a loss of motive power, particularly at lower speeds of approximately 20 kilometers per hour (about 12 miles per hour) or below. Drivers might experience initial warning signs such as weak acceleration, engine vibration, a no-start condition, or a check engine light illuminated on the dashboard. The root cause of this issue is attributed to inconsistent laser welding penetration during the EGR valve’s production. The manufacturer of the affected EGR valves is Korens, located in the Republic of Korea.

Ford initiated an investigation into potential EGR valve issues on July 1, 2025, after receiving warranty claims concerning detached poppet heads. Early analysis indicated insufficient weld penetration. While initial testing suggested that any loss of motive power would occur at low speeds, further instances emerged, prompting a re-evaluation of the risk. By February 24, 2026, Ford’s Field Review Committee approved a field action to address the safety concern. To date, Ford is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or fires linked to this condition.
The remedy for this recall is currently under development. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail and instructed to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership for the necessary repairs at no cost. Ford states that the remedy will differ from the recalled component, implying an updated or improved part will be installed. While the remedy is being finalized, owners are advised to park their vehicles outside due to the potential risk.
Dealer notification regarding this recall is scheduled to begin on March 4, 2026. Interim owner notification letters are expected to be mailed between March 16 and March 20, 2026. The date for the mailing of remedy owner notification letters has not yet been determined. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) will be searchable for recall applicability starting March 4, 2026. Owners seeking immediate information about their specific vehicle’s involvement can contact Ford’s toll-free line at 1-866-436-7332 or reach out to a local Ford or Lincoln dealer.
