The town hall, scheduled to take place today from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites La Vale, will delve into the specifics of Burnett’s “Innovation Corridor Plan.” This initiative is designed to spur economic growth through job creation, enhance energy efficiency, potentially lower costs, and foster technological innovation, with a particular emphasis on positioning Maryland as a leader in the artificial intelligence (AI) economy. The plan also addresses the critical need for high standards and oversight in environmental and community protection measures, particularly concerning the development and operation of data centers, aiming to safeguard residents, workers, and the environment. These proposed standards could serve as a national model.
Burnett, a retired Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel, attorney, and national security expert, highlighted the connection between national security and advancements in AI, including quantum computing, manufacturing technology, and information processing. His background includes extensive experience in combat zones, advising senior commanders on legal and national security matters, and influencing foreign policy. His assignments have included service with U.S. Southern Command and Marine Forces Cyberspace Command, with a final role at the Pentagon. With 22 years of military service, five Middle East deployments, and multiple master’s degrees, Burnett emphasizes the importance of AI leadership for national security and the necessary infrastructure to support its growth. The event is open to all and will provide refreshments.
