Maryland State Police are leading an investigation into the death of an inmate at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Somerset County. The inmate, identified as 31-year-old Quran Middleton, was pronounced deceased on March 10th. Emergency medical service personnel confirmed his passing, and his body was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to ascertain the cause and manner of death. Middleton was serving a sentence at the correctional facility located in Westover.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was alerted to the incident shortly after midnight by investigators from the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit. Initial findings suggest that correctional officers discovered Middleton unresponsive on the floor of his cell. Responding investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, along with crime scene technicians from the Forensic Sciences Division, processed the scene for evidence. Once the investigation is concluded, the findings will be submitted to the Office of the State’s Attorney in Somerset County for their review. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
