The recognitions presented encompassed various categories, including Unit Citations for nine incidents involving 42 personnel, Meritorious Service Awards for four incidents with 14 personnel, and Life Saving Awards for five incidents recognizing 14 individuals. Additionally, two personnel received Stork Awards for their assistance in successful newborn deliveries, and one incident led to the presentation of a Green Cross Award to 10 personnel. This extensive acknowledgment underscores the broad spectrum of critical services provided by the agency.
A significant moment during the ceremony was the inaugural presentation of the Donnie Dunn Jr. Firefighter’s Heart Award. This new award was established in memory of Donnie Dunn Jr., a dedicated ESA staff member who passed away last year. The award is designed to honor an employee who embodies exceptional dedication, character, and a profound commitment to service. Heath Fleming was selected as the first recipient of this meaningful honor. The presentation was particularly poignant as Donnie Dunn Jr.’s widow and children were in attendance, adding a layer of deep personal significance for the JCESA family.
The agency’s leadership emphasized the importance of acknowledging the commitment and achievements of its personnel. The awards highlight a range of critical situations, from emergency medical responses that saved lives to instances of exemplary teamwork during complex and challenging emergencies. The collective efforts recognized demonstrate the unwavering dedication of JCESA staff who consistently answer the call, often during the most difficult moments for community members.
Incoming Chief Todd Gorham expressed his admiration for the agency’s team, noting that their professionalism, skill, and dedication have made a strong positive impression as he prepares to lead JCESA. He observed that the personnel clearly demonstrate a deep care for their mission and for one another, reflecting the high standards of public service in Jefferson County.
