Kia America, Inc. is initiating a recall of approximately 85,448 of its 2025 model year Telluride vehicles. According to information submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall is due to a defect in the power front seatback recliner, which could compromise occupant safety in certain rear impact collisions. The defect stems from improper manufacturing of the power seatback recliner by a supplier, DAS North America. This malfunction could result in the front seatback not adequately restraining an occupant during a rear impact. Potential warning signs of this issue include a loose front seatback or a grinding noise when attempting to recline the seat. The safety risk associated with this defect is an increased possibility of occupant injury in the event of a collision.
Kia’s remedy program involves owners being notified by mail and instructed to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealership. At the dealership, technicians will inspect the seatback frame assembly, and replace it if necessary. Kia has stated that vehicles produced beginning August 9, 2025, are equipped with properly manufactured seatback recliners. The manufacturer also indicated that owners may be reimbursed for repair expenses already incurred, in accordance with Kia’s General Reimbursement Plan.
The recall schedule outlines that dealer notifications were planned to begin on February 24, 2026. Owners are expected to receive their notifications by mail starting April 24, 2026. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) are expected to be searchable for recall status beginning March 9, 2026. Consumers seeking more specific information about their vehicle’s eligibility for this recall are advised to contact Kia’s Customer Care Center or their local Kia dealership.
