According to preliminary reports from the Maryland State Police, the trooper approached the driver’s side of the Infiniti to make contact. The driver’s side door opened slightly, and shots were then discharged from inside the vehicle toward the trooper. The trooper, whose identity is being withheld at this time, did not return fire. The suspect immediately fled the scene, traveling eastbound on Belle Avenue. Emergency medical services responded and transported the injured trooper to a local shock trauma center for medical treatment.
Troopers from the Criminal Enforcement Division, along with officers from the Baltimore Police Department and the Baltimore County Police Department, responded to the scene after receiving a broadcast regarding the incident. The suspect is described as the driver of a silver or gray passenger vehicle, possibly an Infiniti, with partial license plate information available. Authorities note that the vehicle may have dark tinted windows, front-end damage, and broken headlights.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into the attempted murder of the trooper, with ongoing assistance from other law enforcement agencies. Police are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify the driver or lead to their apprehension. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Maryland State Police at 410-653-4200. Callers can remain anonymous.
