Nissan North America, Inc., in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), has announced two separate recalls impacting hundreds of thousands of 2023-2025 Nissan Rogue vehicles. These recalls address potential defects that could lead to loss of motive power, increased risk of crashes, and in rare instances, engine fires. Vehicle owners are strongly advised to heed the safety warnings and schedule inspections and repairs promptly.

The first recall, designated as NHTSA Recall No. 26V081, concerns approximately 318,781 model year 2024-2025 Nissan Rogue vehicles equipped with the 1.5L (KR15DDT) variable compression turbo engine. This recall addresses a defect within the Electronic Throttle Chamber (ETC) assembly. During the ignition start-up process, a routine diagnostic test may cause the internal gears within the ETC to weaken and fracture. A fractured gear could obstruct other internal ETC components, potentially leading to a loss of motive power and an inability to engage forward or reverse gears upon restart. This condition increases the risk of a crash. Nissan is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this specific defect.
The second recall, NHTSA Recall No. 26V080, impacts approximately 323,917 model year 2023-2025 Nissan Rogue vehicles, also equipped with the 3-cylinder 1.5L VC-Turbo engine. This recall addresses a separate issue where increased engine oil temperature under certain operating conditions can degrade lubrication. This degradation can potentially cause bearing seizure, leading to engine damage and complete engine failure. The risk associated with this defect includes a loss of motive power while driving, increasing the chance of a crash. In rare circumstances, a bearing failure could breach the engine block, releasing hot oil and posing a risk of engine fire. While Nissan has received warranty claims related to this condition, the company is not aware of any accidents or injuries resulting from it. However, warning signs such as abnormal engine noise, rough running, or illuminated warning lights on the instrument panel may precede a bearing failure.
For both recalls, Nissan dealers will perform the necessary repairs at no cost to the owner. The remedy for the ETC issue (Recall 26V081) involves reprogramming the Engine Control Module (ECM) and conducting an inspection. If the inspection reveals a necessary replacement, the ETC will be replaced. The remedy for the engine bearing issue (Recall 26V080) includes reprogramming the ECM, performing a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) inspection, and a test drive. In some cases, an engine oil pan inspection for metal debris may be required, and if an engine replacement is deemed necessary, it will be performed by the dealer.
Owners of potentially affected Nissan Rogue vehicles will be notified by mail starting March 27, 2026. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) will be searchable on February 19, 2026, allowing owners to check their vehicle’s recall status. Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles if they experience any of the described symptoms and to park them outside.
