U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has reported significant success in processing Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) and Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) applications, a key initiative to manage the anticipated influx of international visitors for the FIFA World Cup 2026™. During the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2026, CBP authorized over 1 million ESTA applications for travelers hailing from nations that have qualified for the tournament. This streamlined process is designed to facilitate secure and efficient entry for those attending the global sporting event.

The data indicates that the United Kingdom had the highest number of ESTA approvals, exceeding 425,000. Following closely were France with over 215,000 approvals, and Germany with more than 190,000. Japan also saw substantial approval numbers, with nearly 180,000, and the Republic of Korea completed the top five, recording over 135,000 ESTA approvals. These figures underscore the vital role of the Visa Waiver Program and ESTA in managing international travel.
In addition to ESTA approvals, CBP processed a considerable volume of applications for its various Trusted Traveler Programs. Over 656,000 applications were received for programs such as Global Entry, SENTRI, and NEXUS. This total includes 584,000 applications from U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents, 62,000 from Canadian NEXUS members, and 20,000 from qualifying nations participating in TTP partner programs. These programs are instrumental in providing expedited processing for pre-approved, low-risk travelers, ultimately reducing wait times at airports and land border crossings.
To further enhance preparedness for the anticipated surge in travelers, CBP’s TTP team has been actively conducting Global Entry mobile enrollment events in key countries whose citizens are eligible for the World Cup. Recent enrollment events have taken place in Germany and Croatia, with an upcoming event scheduled to be held in Sydney, Australia, from February 23rd to 27th. These events aim to make the application process more accessible for international travelers.
Furthermore, CBP is collaborating with the Canada Border Services Agency to host joint NEXUS enrollment events, expanding access to expedited travel. A recent event occurred in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from January 28th to 29th, and another is planned for Seattle at Boeing Field from February 23rd to 27th. These cooperative efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure smooth entry for World Cup attendees.
CBP is advising eligible travelers to apply for their TTP and ESTA authorizations well in advance of their planned travel to the United States. This proactive approach is recommended to ensure a more predictable and convenient travel experience, allowing visitors to focus on enjoying the tournament. Additional information regarding TTP and ESTA is available on the CBP website.
