The investigation, as detailed in an update from February 13, 2026, has identified seven individuals infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella across seven states: Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, and Washington. The illnesses began between November 7, 2025, and January 8, 2026. Preliminary information gathered by the CDC indicates that 100% of the individuals interviewed reported consuming Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules. Three hospitalizations have been reported, with no fatalities to date.
A significant concern in this outbreak is the Salmonella strain’s resistance to all commonly recommended first-line and alternative antibiotics for treating Salmonella infections. Healthcare providers are advised to consult guidance on this specific strain’s resistance patterns for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
In response to the ongoing investigation, the FDA has recommended that Ambrosia Brands LLC, the distributor of Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules, conduct a recall of certain product lots. Consumers and retailers who have purchased these specific lots are instructed not to consume, sell, or further distribute the product. Instead, it should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. The affected product is identified as Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules, sold in white plastic bottles with a green label and an expiration date of 2027. Lot codes, which are the middle seven digits of the code printed above the expiration date on the bottom of the bottle, are crucial for identifying the potentially contaminated products. A comprehensive list of affected lot codes and their corresponding expiration dates is available.
For those who have purchased or received the identified lots of Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules, thorough cleaning and sanitization of any surfaces or containers that came into contact with the product are strongly recommended to prevent cross-contamination. Consumers experiencing symptoms of a Salmonella infection, such as diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, should seek immediate medical attention from their healthcare provider.
The FDA is conducting a traceback investigation to pinpoint the source of the contamination and is collaborating with state partners to collect and test samples. This public health advisory will be updated as more information becomes available, as additional products may be found to be contaminated. Consumers can report complaints or adverse events through the FDA’s Industry and Consumer Assistance portal.
