Potomac Edison is set to provide a second round of energy relief bill credits to over 247,000 residential customers across Maryland. This initiative, part of the state’s Legislative Energy Relief Refund program, aims to alleviate the financial burden of rising electricity costs for households. The credits will be automatically applied to February bills, with the amount varying based on a customer’s average electricity consumption over the past year.

The energy relief credits are a direct result of the Next Generation Energy Act, which was enacted in April of 2025. Eligible customers who received a similar credit in September of 2025 will automatically be enrolled to receive this second distribution. The credit amounts are tiered: customers using less than 570 kilowatt-hours (kWh) will receive a $45.32 credit, those using between 570 and 1,705 kWh will receive $52.82, and customers consuming more than 1,705 kWh will see a credit of $60.32. These credit amounts are directly correlated to the customer’s energy usage over the period from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2025.
To qualify for this February credit, Maryland residents must have maintained an active residential electricity account with Potomac Edison as of November 1, 2025. Additionally, their accounts must have registered electricity usage within the specified 2024-2025 period, and the account must remain active when the credit is issued. Importantly, customers do not need to take any action to apply for or receive these credits, as they will be automatically applied. The funding for these credits originates from payments made by utilities and electricity suppliers under Maryland’s renewable energy statutes and will not result in any additional charges passed on to customers. Further details regarding this energy relief credit can be found on the FirstEnergy website.
Beyond the immediate relief provided by these bill credits, Potomac Edison offers a range of ongoing programs designed to help customers manage their energy expenses throughout the year. These resources include various bill assistance options, energy efficiency programs that offer rebates, and practical tips for reducing energy consumption. Customers interested in exploring these options can visit the provided web addresses for information on bill assistance, energy efficiency initiatives and rebates, and general energy-saving advice. The company also encourages customers to consider donating to local energy assistance programs if they wish to support others in need. Potomac Edison serves a significant customer base in Maryland, extending across seven counties, and also provides service to approximately 155,000 customers in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
