Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a fatal stabbing incident that occurred on January 17, 2026, at the Sugar Valley Lodge in Polk Borough, Venango County. The incident, reported to PSP Franklin Station by Venango County 911 around 8:56 AM, involved an altercation between two patients at the facility. The victim, identified as 60-year-old Marry Gruhofer of Polk, sustained multiple stab wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities from Troop E, Franklin responded to the call and found the victim deceased in her room at the Sugar Valley Lodge. Dyan A. Diven, a 48-year-old resident of Polk, was taken into custody at the scene. Following the initial response, the Troop E Major Case Team was activated to lead the investigation. After consulting with the Venango County District Attorney’s Office, Diven was formally charged with Criminal Homicide. She has since been arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Andrew Fish, who denied bail. Diven is currently being held at the Venango County Jail as the investigation continues and court proceedings are pending. Sugar Valley Lodge, where the incident took place, is described as a voluntary, charitable organization and a non-profit personal care home dedicated to providing support services in a home-like environment.
