The recall was prompted by an analysis conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, which identified concerning levels of lead in the product. Short-term exposure to small amounts of lead may not produce immediate symptoms, but elevated blood lead levels could be the sole indicator of exposure. Symptoms of lead exposure can manifest with more acute or chronic exposure, and the severity of effects depends on the duration and amount of lead ingested, as well as the age and weight of the individual. Lead exposure can impact multiple bodily systems. In children, prolonged exposure can lead to irreversible damage to the central nervous system, including developmental delays and learning disabilities. For adults, chronic exposure is associated with potential kidney problems, high blood pressure, and neurological effects.
The recalled cinnamon powder is identifiable by its packaging: a 40g pouch, sealed using a vacuum or modified atmosphere, and featuring a brown label with “Lucky Foods” printed at the top. The “Best Before” date is located on the bottom of the back label. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this product to date. TBC Distribution Corporate has stated it has ceased business with the supplier responsible for the contaminated product.
Consumers who purchased Lucky Foods brand Cinnamon Powder with the specified best-before date are strongly advised not to consume it. They may contact TBC Distribution Corporate for further information or guidance. The company can be reached at 718-444-5556, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern time.
