The collection period for the “Sweats for Vets” program will extend until Monday, December 22. Residents wishing to contribute can find designated collection boxes at two convenient locations within Leesburg: Town Hall and the Ida Lee Park Recreation Center. The collected items will be specifically for in-patients at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Donation guidelines have been provided to ensure the effectiveness of the drive. Organizers are requesting only new sweatshirts and sweatpants, with matching sets being the preferred donation. While all sizes are accepted, there is a particular emphasis on larger sizes, specifically L, XL, and XXL, due to a greater need for these. Donated items should not be gift-wrapped. Donors who wish to be acknowledged may include a label with their name or the name of their organization on the donation.

Following the collection period, an event to package the donated sweatsuits will take place at VFW Post 1177, located at 401 Old Waterford Road in Leesburg. This packaging event is scheduled for Friday, December 26, and will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are invited to participate and assist in preparing the items for delivery. After the New Year’s Day holiday, the packaged donations will be transported to the Martinsburg VA Medical Center.
