A significant safety recall has been issued by Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing for over 126,000 Lexus GX, Lexus LX, and Toyota Tundra vehicles manufactured between 2021 and 2024. The recall, identified by NHTSA Recall No. 25V767, addresses a defect in the V35A engine that could lead to engine stalls, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by early January 2026 regarding the remedy.

The issue stems from potential contamination of engine machining debris within the engine assembly during manufacturing. This debris, if present in a specific size and amount, can adhere to the crankshaft main bearings. The design of the V35A engine creates pressure on these bearings, and continued operation at higher loads over time can cause bearing failure. This failure may manifest as engine knocking, rough running, inability to start, or a complete engine stall. A loss of motive power while driving, particularly at higher speeds, poses a substantial safety risk, potentially leading to accidents.
The recall encompasses 3,717 units of the 2024 Lexus GX, produced between May 31, 2023, and April 10, 2024. Additionally, 9,895 units of the 2022-2024 Lexus LX, manufactured from February 26, 2022, to April 02, 2024, are included. The largest portion of the recall involves 113,079 units of the 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra, with production dates ranging from November 22, 2021, to February 14, 2024. It is important to note that while these vehicles fall within the specified production periods, not all vehicles manufactured within these dates were necessarily sold in the U.S.
Toyota is unable to provide an exact percentage of vehicles that will actually exhibit the defect, but has indicated “unknown” for this metric in its filing. The affected engines, including certain service parts, are specific configurations of the V35A engine. Engines produced before or after this particular manufacturing period, or those with improved main bearings or manufacturing processes, are not part of this recall. Other Toyota and Lexus models are not equipped with this specific V35A engine configuration.
Owners of the potentially affected vehicles will receive notifications. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing has stated that all known owners will be contacted with further information about the remedy once it becomes available. The company will also provide a “Do Not Drive” or “Park Outside” advisory to consumers if deemed necessary. Distributors and dealers were scheduled to be notified on November 6, 2025. The VINs of affected vehicles will become searchable on a specified date, allowing owners to check their specific vehicle’s status.
