The recall specifically addresses vehicles produced between January 29, 2025, and February 17, 2025. This includes 495 units of the 2025 Mazda CX-50 and 512 units of the 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid. The manufacturer determined the recall population by reviewing vehicle repair records, identifying instances where in-plant repair documentation was not properly recorded. Vehicles with verified repair and inspection records are not included in this recall.
The safety risk arises from the possibility that loose or detached bolts securing suspension components could lead to their separation. Such a failure could render the vehicle inoperable, increasing the risk of a crash. Drivers might notice abnormal noises originating from the front of the vehicle while driving, which could serve as a warning sign. The defect is attributed to improper torque application to bolts that secure suspension components during the in-plant repair process.
Mazda became aware of the issue following a field report on September 17, 2025, where a 2025 Mazda CX-50 experienced wheel and component detachment. An inspection revealed a missing bolt that secures the lower control arm ball joint to the steering knuckle on the passenger side. Further investigation by Mazda revealed that for some units, repair records were missing or torque entries were not recorded for bolts that had been removed and reinstalled during the repair process, indicating that in-plant repair procedures were not followed.
In response to the investigation, Mazda revised its in-plant processes between September 19 and October 10, 2025, to ensure proper repair procedures are followed and that all related documentation is accurately recorded and retained. The company assessed the potential risk and determined the scope of affected vehicles before approving the recall action on October 23, 2025. As of October 23, 2025, Mazda reported one field incident and no warranty claims related to this issue in the U.S. and its territories. No accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this defect.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicles to a Mazda dealership. Technicians will inspect the front suspension and, if necessary, replace and retighten the affected components to the correct torque specifications at no cost to the owner. The remedy is not a replacement part, as the defect is related to the in-plant repair process.
The manufacturer expects to notify dealers on or before November 3, 2025, and owner notification letters are anticipated to be mailed by December 28, 2025. Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) will be searchable for recall status beginning November 3, 2025. Mazda advises owners of affected vehicles not to drive them and to park them outside until the inspection and repair can be performed.
