We didn't pick our name by accident. The 5K cross-country race is set to commence at 9 a.m., with participants navigating a scenic route across 138 acres of Ida Lee Park, starting near the front field gazebo. Following the 5K, a 1-Mile Fun Run will take place at 10 a.m., offering a shorter option for younger participants or those seeking a less strenuous activity. Registration for both races is available online. Organizers have noted that due to the uneven terrain of the course, dogs, wagons, and baby strollers will not be permitted to ensure the safety of all participants.
Participants who pre-register for the 5K race will receive a commemorative long-sleeve performance t-shirt. Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers in the 5K, as well as to the top three male and female finishers within each age category. All participants completing the 1-Mile Fun Run will receive a commemorative medal upon crossing the finish line.
A key component of the “Freeze Your Gizzard” event is its support for Loudoun Hunger Relief. Attendees are strongly encouraged to contribute by bringing non-perishable food items, which will be collected at packet pickup and on the day of the race to help stock the local food pantry. Additionally, individuals have the option to make a monetary donation to Loudoun Hunger Relief when registering for the races online, providing further financial support for their essential services.
For those attending the event, parking will be available in the designated festival parking field. Access to this parking area is exclusively through North King Street (Business Route 15), and entry from Ida Lee Drive will not be permitted. Further inquiries regarding the event can be directed by phone to 703-777-1368 or by visiting the Ida Lee Park website at http://www.idalee.org.
