Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) has initiated a voluntary safety recall for a significant number of 2018-2026 model year Ram ProMaster vehicles due to a defect that could lead to vehicle fires. According to the manufacturer’s submission to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 291,664 fleet vehicles are potentially affected by this issue. The defect involves a cooling fan module susceptible to premature bearing wear and inadequate fuse protection, which in demanding fleet duty cycles could result in a fire.

The recall, identified by NHTSA Recall Number 25V720 and manufacturer recall number 67C, stems from an investigation opened by FCA US on July 3, 2025. During this investigation, which lasted until October 14, 2025, the company identified evidence of premature bearing wear in the cooling fan motor. Further analysis indicated that the current fuse size for the 400-watt fan circuit does not adequately protect against high current draw. This combination of factors has been determined by FCA US to be the root cause of the potential safety hazard.

The affected Ram ProMaster vehicles were manufactured between July 20, 2017, and October 7, 2025. The company has stated that vehicles not included in this recall are either not fleet vehicles or were produced outside of this specified timeframe. The safety risk associated with this defect includes an increased chance of occupant injury, injury to persons outside the vehicle, and property damage due to a potential vehicle fire. Owners are advised that there are no warning lights or indicators that will precede the potential malfunction.

As of October 14, 2025, FCA US reported 39 customer assistance records and field reports related to this issue, with dates of receipt ranging from January 15, 2020, to September 29, 2025. The manufacturer is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to this problem across all markets. The supplier of the implicated cooling fan module is MAHLE Thermal and Fluid Systems GmbH & CO, located in Germany.

FCA US will be notifying dealers of the recall on or about October 30, 2025, and owners will begin receiving notification on or about November 20, 2025. The remedy for this recall is currently under development. Owners of affected vehicles are advised by the manufacturer not to drive their vehicles if parked outside, and to park them outdoors. Further information regarding the repair or replacement of the cooling fan module will be provided as it becomes available. Owners can expect to be able to check their vehicle’s VIN for recall eligibility on or about October 30, 2025.
