The City of Frederick will continue to pay employees whose positions are funded by federal grants, ensuring continued income for these individuals and their families. In addition to employee stability, the city is redirecting non-obligated rental licensing funds to offer emergency rental assistance specifically for furloughed federal workers and contractors. This program is being managed in partnership with Beyond Shelter, with more information available on their website at bsfred.org/need-help/homeless-prevention/.
Affected residents and contractors may also defer payments for residential water, sewer, and monthly parking without incurring late fees or penalties. The city is offering flexible repayment options for these deferred payments. Details regarding these payment deferrals can be found on the city’s website at frederickmd.gov/payments.
To further support households impacted by the shutdown, the City’s Department of Housing and Human Services, in collaboration with Fort Detrick Alliance and Platoon 22, will host two “Supporting Those Who Serve” resource fairs. These events will provide both food and essential resources to affected families. The fairs are scheduled for October 21 and November 3, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at the Trinity Recreation Center located at 6040 New Design Road. Further information about these events is available at frederickmd.gov/supportingthosewhoserve.
Small businesses facing financial disruptions due to delayed federal payments or contracts can access assistance through the City’s Department of Economic Development. This department has released a guide outlining resources for impacted businesses and will provide one-on-one support to help local firms navigate these financial challenges. Additional details can be found at frederickmd.gov/bizresources.
