The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced two separate recalls affecting approximately 23,600 Yamaha golf car vehicles. The recalls address distinct safety concerns: one for a lack of stop lights on certain Drive 2 models, and another for braking issues on DR2A and DR2E models. Both recalls are due to a risk of serious injury or death from crash hazards.

The first recall involves model year 2021 through 2025 Yamaha Drive 2 Personal Transportation Vehicles (PTVs), encompassing both gas and electric models sold in various colors. Approximately 19,300 of these vehicles are affected by this recall because they lack functional stop lights. This deficiency poses a significant crash hazard, particularly in situations where the vehicle needs to signal its deceleration to other traffic. Consumers are urged to immediately cease using these golf cars and contact an authorized Yamaha Golf Car dealer to arrange for the free installation of two stoplights. Yamaha will also facilitate transportation for affected vehicles or perform the repair on-site if the owner cannot bring the golf car to a dealer. These recalled vehicles were sold nationwide by Yamaha dealers from June 2020 through July 2025, with prices ranging from $8,300 to $12,900.
The second recall pertains to model year 2017 through 2024 Yamaha DR2A and DR2E Personal Transportation Vehicles (PTVs). This recall affects approximately 4,300 units and addresses a critical braking system defect, where the vehicles may fail to brake properly. This malfunction presents a serious crash hazard, increasing the risk of injury or death. Owners of these recalled models are also instructed to stop using their vehicles immediately. They should contact an authorized Yamaha Golf Car dealer to schedule a complimentary repair that involves the installation of new brake shoes and pads. Similar to the first recall, Yamaha will offer transportation services or on-site repairs for those unable to transport their vehicle to a dealership. These DR2A and DR2E models were sold by Yamaha dealers nationwide between June 2018 and July 2025, with prices ranging from $9,500 to $13,000.
For both recalls, consumers can find specific model and serial number information on Yamaha’s websites. Yamaha is providing a toll-free number and an email address for consumers seeking assistance or wishing to schedule repairs. While no incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with either of these recalls, prompt action is advised to mitigate the potential risks associated with these safety defects. The vehicles were imported by Yamaha Golf Car Company of Kennesaw, Georgia, and manufactured in Japan.
