Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is initiating a voluntary safety recall affecting approximately 790 model year 2024 and 2025 Ram ProMaster Battery Electric Vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the Motor Control Processor (MCP) software, which may fail to adequately limit dynamic torque spikes. These torque spikes can lead to damage to the differential housing, potentially resulting in a loss of propulsion. This issue was identified through an investigation that began after plant alerts in Europe regarding broken differential housings on similar electric drive modules.

The safety risk associated with this defect is an unexpected loss of propulsion, which could cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. Owners of the affected Ram ProMaster electric vans are being advised not to drive or park the vehicles inside until the necessary repairs are completed. The recall period for these vehicles began on August 31, 2023, with affected vehicles produced up until July 17, 2025. Vehicles produced outside of this timeframe or those that received the correct MCP software flash prior to leaving the factory are not included in this recall.
The potentially affected components include the Electric Drive Module (EDM), manufactured by Jing-Jin Electric North America LLC. The investigation into this issue began in March 2025, stemming from observations on Fiat Ducato vehicles. FCA US initiated its own investigation into the Ram ProMaster vehicles in September 2025. As of September 24, 2025, FCA US reported no customer assistance, warranty claims, or service records related to this specific issue across all markets, though two field reports were received between April 9, 2024, and October 31, 2024. Additionally, FCA US is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this defect.
Chrysler has determined that a safety defect exists and will notify dealers about the recall on or about October 16, 2025. Owners of the affected vehicles are scheduled to be notified and begin receiving the remedy on or about October 30, 2025, with the remedy being implemented in phases. Owners will be able to check if their vehicle’s VIN is included in the recall starting October 16, 2025.
The remedy for this recall will involve reprogramming the Motor Control Processor (MCP), Battery Processor Control Module (BPCM), Integrated Dual Charge Module (IDCM), and Electric Vehicle Control Unit (eVCU). Additionally, technicians will inspect the Electric Drive Module (EDM) and replace it if necessary. Chrysler will utilize its general reimbursement plan on file for any owner expenses incurred related to this defect.
