Bentley Motors, Inc., headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, has initiated a safety recall for approximately 17 vehicles due to a defect that could potentially lead to a fire hazard. The affected models include specific production runs of the 2025-2025 Bentley Continental GTC, 2026-2026 Bentley Continental GTC, 2026-2026 Bentley Continental GT, 2025-2025 Bentley Flying Spur, and 2025-2025 Bentley Continental GT. The recall stems from an issue identified by Bentley’s engine supplier, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, concerning the high-pressure fuel pump attachment.

The concern centers on the bolted joint connection that secures the high-pressure fuel pump to the V8 Evo engine. According to the manufacturer’s submission to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the supplier may not have tightened the screws responsible for this connection to the correct torque specification. This potential under-tightening could allow the high-pressure fuel pump to become loose. If the pump works loose, it could sustain internal damage, potentially resulting in a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, such a fuel leak significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire. Bentley has noted that this defect might not be immediately apparent during normal driving, though some drivers may perceive a fuel smell or observe the illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (Check Engine Light). However, these warning signs are not guaranteed, and the issue could go undetected until a fuel leak occurs.

The recall process was initiated after Bentley was first informed of the potential issue by its engine supplier on September 2, 2025. Following several clarification meetings and further notifications from the supplier regarding additional potentially affected engines, Bentley’s Product Safety Committee made the decision to conduct a safety recall on September 17, 2025. The affected vehicles were produced between April 2024 and August 2025. Bentley has reported that it is not aware of any crashes, fires, injuries, or deaths linked to this specific defect.

Bentley authorized retailers will conduct a torque check on the four screws securing the high-pressure fuel pump (two screws per pump, with two pumps per engine). This inspection is expected to take less than two hours. If the torque of any of these screws exceeds 18Nm, no further repair will be necessary. However, if any of the pump screws are found to be less than 18Nm, a remedy will be required, which involves replacing the high-pressure fuel pump and associated components. The manufacturer has stated that all affected vehicles are within their three-year warranty period, and therefore, a reimbursement plan for repairs will not be offered. The manufacturer has also indicated that the condition has been corrected at the engine supplier’s production facility through technical repairs, process adjustments, and enhanced quality assurance measures, with these corrective actions implemented in early September 2025.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by Bentley regarding the remedy program, with planned dealer notification commencing on October 20, 2025, and customer notification beginning on October 27, 2025. The manufacturer has advised vehicle owners to park affected vehicles outside due to the potential fire risk. A VIN search function to determine if a specific vehicle is included in the recall will be available starting October 27, 2025.
