According to a Part 573 Safety Recall Report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Hyundai Motor America is recalling approximately 31,042 model year 2023-2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric vehicles. The recall, identified as NHTSA Recall Number 25V606, addresses a defect where the charging port door outer panel may not engage sufficiently, increasing the risk of detachment during operation.

The issue stems from insufficient engagement between the outer panel retaining hooks and the charging port door. This potential detachment of the charging port door outer panel while the vehicle is in motion could create a road hazard for other drivers, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. While Hyundai is aware of six reports of detachment in the U.S. to date, none of these incidents have resulted in crashes, injuries, fatalities, or fires. The vehicles in question were produced by Hyundai Motor Company in Korea for the U.S. market between December 14, 2022, and December 26, 2024. The supplier for the affected component, the charging door outer cover (part number 695C0-KL000), is LS Automotive Technologies Co., Ltd.
Hyundai initiated its investigation in April 2025 after receiving reports of the condition in foreign markets. The company’s data analysis team began monitoring for similar reports in the U.S. and reviewed foreign investigations to understand potential failure mechanisms. By September 3, 2025, the investigation concluded that U.S. vehicles might share the same defect. Subsequently, Hyundai decided to proceed with a safety recall for potentially affected vehicles in the U.S.
Owners of the affected Hyundai Ioniq 6 vehicles will be notified by first-class mail and will be instructed to bring their cars to a Hyundai dealer for repair. The remedy will be provided at no cost to owners, irrespective of whether the vehicle is still under its New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Hyundai will also offer reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses incurred by owners who have already obtained a remedy for this specific recall issue. The repair involves applying an adhesive to enhance the retention of the charging port door outer panel. This improved adhesive application was implemented as a running production change starting October 10, 2024.
Dealers are scheduled to be notified electronically regarding the recall by November 10, 2025. Owner notifications via certified mail are also planned for the same date. Owners will be able to check if their vehicle is included in the recall by its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) starting September 13, 2025. Hyundai advises owners of affected vehicles not to drive their cars and to park them outside until the repair can be completed.
