Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is initiating a voluntary safety recall for certain 2024-2025 model year Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger vehicles due to a defect that could lead to a dangerous rollaway situation. The issue stems from a mis-installed Park Pawl Return Spring (PPRS) within the Electric Drive Module (EDM), a component critical for securing the vehicle in park. This faulty installation means the vehicles may not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114, which governs theft protection and requires vehicles on a 10 percent grade to remain stationary when placed in park, with brakes released. The affected vehicles could move more than the permitted 150 millimeters from their marked position, posing a significant safety risk.

The recall encompasses 75 potentially involved vehicles in total, with 26 Jeep Wagoneer S models and 49 Dodge Charger models identified. For the Jeep Wagoneer S, the suspect production period began on August 9, 2024, and concluded on March 18, 2025. The Dodge Charger vehicles affected were produced between August 2, 2024, and April 3, 2025. FCA US determined the suspect population through traceability of the EDM and vehicle production records. Vehicles manufactured outside these specified dates or with a properly installed PPRS are not included in this recall.
The defect carries the potential for vehicle rollaway without prior warning. This poses a risk of crashes and could result in injury to individuals outside the vehicle. There are no identified warnings that may occur when the defect is present. The primary component implicated in this safety concern is the Electric Drive Module, with specific part numbers including 05190337AD, 05190337AF, 05190333AD, and 05190333AG. This component is manufactured by FCA US LLC.
Chrysler initiated an investigation into this issue on July 15, 2025, after the FCA US Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance organization identified potential problems with the PPRS installation in the EDM. Following internal reviews and discussions with engineering and manufacturing teams, the company confirmed the existence of an issue related to rollaway prevention that could lead to a noncompliance with FMVSS No. 114 by July 23, 2025. This was further affirmed by the Vehicle Regulations Committee on August 28, 2025, leading to the decision to conduct a voluntary recall.
To address the defect, FCA US will replace the Electric Drive Module in all affected vehicles with a new EDM featuring a properly installed PPRS. Owners of affected vehicles are strongly advised not to drive their vehicles if they are parked on any incline and to park them outdoors whenever possible until the recall repair is completed. Dealers will be notified of the recall on or about September 11, 2025. Owners can expect to be notified beginning September 25, 2025, with the recall being phased. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) for the affected vehicles will be searchable starting September 11, 2025. FCA US has a general reimbursement plan on file should any owners have incurred costs related to this issue.
