According to a news release from the Town of Leesburg, Virginia, the Leesburg Kiwanis Club has rescheduled its annual Halloween Parade. This year’s parade will take place on Thursday, October 30, at 6 p.m., a change from the traditional Halloween night observance. This adjustment aims to allow residents to participate in both the parade and the customary trick-or-treating activities without conflict.

The decision to move the parade to the evening before Halloween, October 31, was made to ensure families and participants have the opportunity to enjoy both beloved community traditions without overlap. The parade itself is a long-standing Leesburg event, drawing participation from various community groups, marching bands, and individuals who showcase creatively decorated floats. The event is steeped in community spirit and Halloween festivities.
Residents interested in participating in the parade are encouraged to register online. The registration is free, but there is a deadline of Friday, October 24. Participants are also invited to contribute to a food drive for Loudoun Hunger Relief. Collection of food donations will occur during the parade sign-in at Ida Lee Park. A list of most needed items can be found on the Loudoun Hunger Relief website.
It is important for residents to note that this change in the parade schedule does not alter the date for trick-or-treating. Trick-or-treating will proceed as usual on Friday, October 31. For any inquiries regarding the Halloween Parade, individuals are directed to contact Kim Thompson, the Leesburg Kiwanis Club Parade Coordinator. The Leesburg Halloween Parade holds a significant place in the region, being recognized as one of the oldest parades of its kind in the eastern United States, with its origins dating back to 1957. Further details about the event, including guidelines for participation and registration forms, are available on the Kiwanis Club website.
