Ford Motor Company is initiating a recall affecting a substantial number of its light trucks and SUVs due to an issue with the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) software, as detailed in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The defect could cause the instrument panel to display no information at startup, potentially preventing drivers from seeing critical safety information.

The recall encompasses approximately 355,656 vehicles, including various models of the Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty. Production dates for the affected vehicles range from May 14, 2024, to July 25, 2025, depending on the specific model. The company has identified that the instrument panel cluster software, supplied by Visteon, may experience a memory protection fault during the vehicle’s sleep entry sequence. This fault can occur when a CAN wakeup interrupt happens within a specific timeframe, leading to a blank display at startup.
The safety risk associated with this malfunction is that a blank instrument panel could render essential safety features, such as warning lights and gauges, unreadable under certain conditions. This lack of clear safety information can increase the likelihood of a crash. While Ford is aware of warranty claims and one potential Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) related to this issue, the company states it is not aware of any accidents or injuries directly caused by this condition.
Ford plans to notify dealers on or around August 25, 2025, with owner notification letters expected to be mailed between September 2 and September 5, 2025. Owners will be instructed to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a complimentary software update to the Instrument Panel Cluster module. This update will address the memory protection fault by disabling the feature that causes the issue. Information regarding the applicability of the recall to specific vehicles will be available through Ford’s customer service line at 1-866-436-7332 or by contacting a local Ford or Lincoln dealer, who can access the Ford On-line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) database. Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) for this recall are planned to be searchable starting August 25, 2025.
