According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Burke is accused of siphoning funds from the accounts between April 2005 and March 2022. The total amount allegedly stolen amounts to $350,634.23. The investigation into these alleged fraudulent activities was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Social Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of the Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Zenzinger is overseeing the prosecution of this case.
If convicted of wire fraud, Burke faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a significant fine. Following any period of incarceration, a term of supervised release may also be imposed. The final sentence in such cases is determined by a judge, taking into account applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. It is important to note that the charges are currently allegations, and all individuals accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
