According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 312,000 vehicles across five 2025 models due to a defect in the Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) that could increase the risk of a crash. The recall includes the Ford F-150, Ranger, Bronco, Expedition, and the Lincoln Navigator, all of which may experience brake boost failure while in operation.

The issue stems from the EBB module potentially entering a faulted state during normal driving or while using advanced driver assistance systems. This fault disables brake boost functionality until the vehicle is restarted and the system resets, possibly leading to longer stopping distances. Drivers may notice warning lights for ABS, ESC, and brake systems, along with changes in brake pedal feel, increased pedal travel, and audible alerts. Although Ford has confirmed one low-speed crash possibly related to this issue, no injuries or fires have been reported.
To address the problem, Ford will deploy a free software update to affected vehicles, either over-the-air or through dealership visits. Notifications to dealers are expected to begin on August 11, 2025, while customer notification letters will be sent between August 25 and August 29. Owners can also contact Ford or Lincoln dealers to confirm if their vehicle is included and schedule service. The affected EBB components were supplied by Robert Bosch LLC.

The Ford F-150 accounts for the majority of impacted vehicles, with nearly 218,000 units included in the recall. Other affected models include about 39,900 Ford Broncos, 26,600 Ford Expeditions, 20,500 Ford Rangers, and just over 7,100 Lincoln Navigators. Although only an estimated one percent of vehicles are believed to contain the defective module, all listed models produced within specific date ranges between November 2023 and June 2025 are potentially involved.
Drivers are advised to monitor their dashboards for any warning indicators and follow up with their dealer if they suspect a brake issue. VINs can be checked for recall status through Ford’s online database or by calling Ford’s customer service line.
