Per a recall notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, approximately 24,000 lithium-ion batteries sold with VIVI brand e-bikes have been recalled due to fire and burn hazards. The batteries, which were included with various e-bike models sold between December 2020 and November 2023, may overheat during use, posing a serious risk of fire, injury, or death. While no injuries have been reported, 14 overheating incidents—including three fires—have prompted the recall.

Consumers who own affected VIVI e-bikes are being advised to stop using them immediately and contact VIVI for a free battery and charger replacement. Battery disposal must be handled carefully: recalled lithium-ion units cannot be discarded with regular trash or recycling and should instead be taken to a designated household hazardous waste collection center. Consumers must confirm disposal by emailing the company at vivirecall@163.com. The recall covers multiple e-bike models, including the C26, MT20, Z3, and H7, among others. Battery model numbers can be found on the battery casing, and bike model numbers are printed on the frame.

Affected bikes were sold through major online retailers including Amazon, Walmart, eBay, and VIVI’s own website, with prices ranging from $365 to $950. The recalled batteries were manufactured by Guangzhou Plenty Bicycle Co., Ltd. and distributed by Shenzhen Binxin Household Co., Ltd., operating as VIVI E-bikes.

Improper disposal of these batteries presents a significant safety risk, as lithium-ion units can ignite if mishandled. Consumers are urged to contact their local waste authority for guidance on disposal and confirm with hazardous waste facilities before dropping off affected batteries. Municipalities may differ in their acceptance policies, and failure to follow the correct disposal protocol could increase the risk of fire. VIVI can be contacted at 800-375-6103 or via their website for full instructions and support.
