Owners of certain 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles will need to visit a dealer for a no-cost replacement of a critical battery component after federal regulators identified a defect that could cause the vehicle to unexpectedly lose power. The issue affects 239 vehicles manufactured between May 25 and May 27, 2022, all of which were equipped with an extended-range battery but not the GT powertrain.

The recall stems from a defect in the vehicle’s Bussed Electrical Center (BEC), which manages high-voltage battery functions. According to Ford, repeated use of direct current fast charging or hard acceleration can cause the battery’s main contactors to overheat. This overheating may lead to arcing or surface deformation, possibly preventing the contactors from closing or causing them to weld shut. If this occurs during driving, the vehicle can suddenly lose power, posing a crash risk.

Ford previously initiated a recall in 2023 to address the same issue, but 239 vehicles were mistakenly excluded due to an incorrect production date cutoff. The updated recall now captures those vehicles. While no accidents or injuries have been reported, Ford has received 22 related warranty claims in North America. Warning signs of the defect may include a wrench light on the dashboard or a “Stop Safely Now” message. If the failure happens during operation, the vehicle will coast to a stop while retaining power brakes and steering.
Owners will begin receiving notification letters between July 14 and July 18, 2025. Affected vehicles will receive an upgraded BEC component, redesigned to better withstand heat and wear. Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and not drive them until the repair is completed. Vehicle-specific recall information is available by calling Ford at 1-866-436-7332 or visiting a Ford or Lincoln dealership.
