Owners of the Ford Mustang Mach-E are being advised to schedule service appointments after the automaker issued a nationwide recall affecting nearly 200,000 vehicles produced between 2021 and 2025. The recall stems from a software issue that may cause the front doors to remain locked after the 12-volt battery loses power, creating a risk of occupants being locked out—or in—unexpectedly.

The problem arises when the 12V battery drops below 8.4 volts while the vehicle is off. In this condition, the electronic side door latches do not reset, and if the front doors are opened using mechanical interior handles, they can relock upon closure—preventing re-entry. Ford has confirmed the defect affects all 197,432 vehicles in the recall range and is offering a free software update to fix the issue. The update extends low-voltage power support for 12 minutes after the car is turned off, ensuring the e-latches function properly and doors remain unlocked if used during that interval. Notifications to owners will begin arriving by mail starting June 23, 2025, with remedy letters to follow in late September.
Drivers concerned about their vehicle’s status can check eligibility using their VIN at Ford’s website or by contacting local dealerships. While no injuries or accidents have been linked to the defect so far, the issue could pose a serious safety concern in high-temperature conditions or other emergencies if occupants cannot exit or re-enter the vehicle.
