The arrests occurred after U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Detroit Station responded to a request from Sterling Heights police, who had detained the individuals following an altercation at a local motel. Record checks confirmed both men were unlawfully in the country. During interviews, one of the individuals revealed his MS-13 affiliation and said he had completed a 20-year sentence in El Salvador for murdering a rival gang member.
