The sequence began on June 17 when French and Dutch aircraft detected two suspect vessels in Caribbean waters. Surveillance efforts tracked the targets until U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s AMO units—including a Blackhawk helicopter, Multi-role Enforcement Aircraft, and a marine interceptor boat—took over. AMO personnel detained three individuals aboard one of the boats, but the second vessel carrying contraband initially evaded capture.

By the next day, British Virgin Islands law enforcement discovered that the second boat had sunk after striking a reef. Bales of cocaine were found washed ashore near Pajaros Point, and local search and rescue crews reported recovering three people from the water, one of whom was found clinging to a floating bale.
